Monthly College Counseling Update: May/June 2024

This is a great opportunity to remind all families that the college counseling office is open and staffed the entire summer. Please feel free to continue to reach out with questions via phone or email. If a counselor is going to be out of the office, their out-of-office reply will instruct you who is available.
Class of 2024

Congratulations. Have a wonderful summer. Best of luck with your transitions to college. Remember the things that made you successful at Archmere: kindness, communications with teachers, hard-work, defeating procrastination, looking out for others and being brave enough to ask for help. Godspeed and thank you again for allowing us to be a part of your process.

Seniors - yes, the Class of 2025!

We sent all members of the senior class an email today inviting them to upload their junior English essay assignment into their CC25 folder and request a college counselor review and provide comments. The form that was sent out can be used to request any essay for review. The average amount of time to receive a response should be a week to 10 days at the most. Seniors and their families also received their Summer Checklist with recommended actions to complete over the summer months. Students are urged to work on their Common Application and essay, and, at minimum, have these completed before we return for the school year in August. Students, best of luck continuing your college search, working on your application, and advancing your college lists. Please reach out to us whenever you need advice or counselor.

Juniors

The Class of 2026 and their families also received a Summer Checklist to advance their college searches during vacation. As a reminder, we would like for each student to have visited 2 - 4 colleges and universities before early December when juniors will have their first meeting with their college counselor. Juniors have also been invited to schedule optional family meetings with a college counselor to get questions answered about the process and obtain advice.

Sophomores

Congratulations on completing your first year at Archmere. We hope that it was everything you expected and more. Our advice for you is less structured and more organic: be open to exploring, scratch-an-itch if you have one, and attempt to take on more than you did last year. “Taking on more” could be increasing the rigor of your academic schedule, joining a new club or team, and perhaps putting yourself out there to take the lead on something. All of these things will provide you experiences that will help you grow, learn more about yourself, and assist you in future problem-solving. If you’d like to ask questions to seek out more direction, please feel free to schedule an optional summer meeting with a college counselor.

Incoming First-Year Students

We look forward to meeting you. Have a terrific summer and we’ll be in front of you a few times in your first year. We will offer programs that students and families are welcome to attend and invite you to stop into our offices to ask questions at any time.
