Andy Zhu '24 Poised to Win Fourth Straight Singles Title

Archmere senior Andy Zhu has a chance to be Delaware's second undefeated, four-time first singles boys tennis champion. Andy would be just the second Delaware boy since the state moved to its tournament format more than 50 years ago to go undefeated throughout his entire high school career. He already has three State Championships under his belt, but of this one says, "If I think too big, too far ahead, I think that can get in my head." Andy will compete to defend his title in the State Tournament on May 18th, with final rounds on May 22nd.

The News Journal writes, "Zhu's goal for his senior season is to help Archmere win a team championship, which would be the school's first since 2002. He often leads the team through drills and helps teammates with their mechanics pointers. From a mental standpoint, he stresses focus on the first four strokes, where a majority of points are won and lost. In his own game, Zhu is working on getting better at going to the net and building on strengths like his serve and forehand."

With 54 career wins so far, Andy has played a third set only three times. The boys tennis team is currently 10-1, with two more regular season matches on the schedule before the State Tournament begins.
