Mock Trial Team Successfully Competes at the Justice Center in Wilmington
The Delaware High School Mock Trial Competition took place on February 28 and March 1, 2025 at the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center. Varsity Team Captains Brianna Yang (‘25) and Daniel Qi (‘26) led their team through 4 rounds of competition, winning two rounds and ending in a tie in two rounds.
Brianna Yang and Chloe Li (‘26) were each awarded Most Effective Attorney gavels, and Zoe Thornton (‘26) earned a Most Effective Witness gavel. Darren Luo (‘26) was awarded two Most Effective Witness gavels in different rounds of the competition.
The team members, including senior attorney Brianna Yang, junior attorneys Chloe Li, Brandon Paregian, Daniel Qi, Kellyn Williams and Rebecca Wang, and junior witnesses Sarah Eastment, Omar Hefnawi, Darren Luo, Zoe Thornton, Angela Zhang and Audrey Zou, demonstrated outstanding knowledge of legal and evidentiary rules and a thorough understanding of the case, which was a civil suit about negligent hiring and retention at DE.CO food hall.
The team is coached by Delaware attorneys and former/current Archmere parents Neilli Walsh and Kristin Giakas along with Archmere Spanish teacher Janna Scheflen.
The Delaware Law-Related Education Center also held a competition for Courtroom Artist, rewarding the artist who created the best drawing throughout the course of a two hour round of competition. They specifically rewarded artists who showed the drama and action of the courtroom, with a focus on composition, perspective and detail. Megan Shaposky (‘26) represented Archmere for the second year.
