Swim Team Competes at DIAA State Championship Meet
The Archmere Swim Team competed in the DIAA Swimming & Diving Championship Finals on Saturday, February 22, 2025. The State Preliminaries were held during the week, with Finals taking place all day Saturday at the University of Delaware. The State Championship Meet is a qualifying meet, and several members of the Archmere team competed in the Prelims, at which seven members of the girls team and seven members of the boys team earned a spot in Finals.
Aoife McGurk ’25 and Kathryn Pyne ’25 qualified for individual events for the girls, along with Melissa Doig ’25, Katie Hickey '26, Grace Biester '28, Lila Matthews ‘28, and Noelle Klinger ’25, who competed in the relays. Logan Bustard ’25, Declan McGrath '27 and Quinn McCormick ’25 qualified for individual events at Finals, along with Luca Anerino ’26, Luke Middleton '26, John Pyne '28 and Grady Wheeler '27, who qualified for the relays.
The girls swam Wednesday evening and Saturday morning, finishing 16th overall. Individually, Aoife McGurk placed 12th in the 50 Freestyle and Kathryn Pyne placed 10th in the 100 Breaststroke. The 200 Medley Relay of Katie Hickey, Kathryn Pyne, Aoife McGurk, and Melissa Doig placed 9th overall, while the 200 Free Relay of Melissa Doig, Grace Biester, Kathryn Pyne, and Aoife McGurk also placed 9th overall. In addition, the 400 Free Relay of Lila Matthews, Noelle Klinger, Katie Hickey and Grace Biester placed 16th overall.
The boys swam Thursday and Saturday evenings, finishing 10th overall. During the State Prelim Meet on Thursday, seven Archmere boys qualified to swim at the State Championship Finals at the University of Delaware on Saturday night. Individually, Logan Bustard finished 5th in the 50 Free and 9th in the 100 Backstroke. Quinn McCormick placed 15th in the 100 Backstroke, and Declan McGrath placed 15th in the 200 Free and 16th in the 100 Breaststroke. Not to mention, all 3 relays made the finals: the 200 Medley Relay of Logan Bustard, Declan McGrath, John Pyne, and Quinn McCormick placed 6th overall, the 400 Free Relay of Quinn McCormick, John Pyne, Luca Anerino and Logan Bustard placed 6th overall, and the 200 Free Relay of Luca Anerino, Luke Middleton, Grady Wheeler, and Declan McGrath placed 12th.
