Academic Bowl Team Wins Championship
On April 16, Archmere defended their title against St. Marks with a thrilling one question lead in the Academic Bowl Championship. The Archmere team has won every championship since 2020, and hasn't lost a single competitive match for at least 3 years. Congratulations to the team and their moderator, Mr. Wilcox!

Seniors in AP Research Prepare for Academic Paper, Presentation and Oral Defense
Students in Mr. Dougherty's AP Research class completed their Presentations and Oral Defenses this week after conducting original research since September on a subject of their choice. How has nurse clinical training changed since Covid-19? Who's behind the revitalization of Wilmington? Are underserved populations of American children receiving the swim safety programs they need? What is Philadelphia doing about the open drug use in Kensington? And is Kennett Square mushroom farming poisoning local waters with toxins? The students submitted their 4,000-5000-word papers to the College Board on April 30.
NAHS Leads Painting Workshop with Mary Campbell Center
This month, members of Archmere’s National Art Honor Society led a painting workshop with the residents of the Mary Campbell Center. The paintings created by the residents will be combined with paintings created by Archmere students into a collaborative digital mural to adorn the center’s hallways.
A highlight of the visit included a photo of Mrs. Silverman '00 and her daughter Sophia '28, standing under the portrait of Chuck Welch, Mary Campbell Center founder. Chuck is the father of four Archmere alums and grandfather of four Archmere alums, including Mrs. Silverman and Sophia!
A Check-in with the Global Studies Program
On Tuesday night, April 23, Mr. Dougherty met with families interested in sending their kids to Nicaragua over Thanksgiving 2024. From November 24-30, our Spanish-enrolled students will tutor the young students of Centro de Oportunidad in subjects like Spanish, math, reading, and art. The maximum number of students to travel is 12, so please contact Mr. Dougherty for more information about pricing and itinerary. As students sign up for this excellent service opportunity, another trip roster just filled up with 30 students going to Iceland over Easter vacation in 2025, with the student exchange to Senlis, France, following in June. But the very next group leaving Archmere's shores under the Global Studies Program flag will be travelng to Taiwan, leaving on June 5 for 14 days. The experiences, insights, and learning gained on all of these trips will make such a difference in developing our students' global mindset. Where is Archmere going for the rest of 2025 and early 2026? Costa Rica? Italy? Ecuador? Who knows! Plus, Archmere is still looking for host families to house at least two more international students during the 2024-25 school year. Experiential Learning with AP French Class at the Barnes Foundation
When he began The Barnes Foundation, Dr. Albert Barnes did not intend for it to be a mass viewing experience; instead, he hoped for it to be an intimate, educational space. On April 19th, Madame Thiel's AP French students were treated to an afternoon in this non-traditional museum, furthering their study of impressionism and optimizing their experiential learning opportunities.
HRAI Students Wrap Up Successful Year with Spring Concert Showcase
The Helena Raskob Arts Institute presented 14 student musicians and their guest accompanists at the Green Concert Student Showcase on April 21 in the Patio. The prize winning students rendered polished performances that left the audience spellbound. Seniors Sophia Chen, Alicia Chu, Michelle Zhang, and Grace Chen (in absence) were honored for their years of contributions to the HRAI music programs and performances. Guests in attendance enjoyed greeting the musicians at the reception following the recital. Pianists, harpists, singers, string players, and the esteemed HRAI String Ensemble demonstrated their best work on this memorable afternoon.

Mastersingers Perform at Carnegie Hall
Earlier this month, our esteemed Mastersingers took to the stage at Carnegie Hall in NYC for the High School Honors Performance Series. As selected Finalists, the Mastersingers rehearsed and performed under master conductors, experienced NYC, and enjoyed the opportunity to meet other like-minded musicians from around the world. An incredible honor for our talented Mastersingers!
