Varsity Basketball Remains Undefeated with Win over Brandywine
Archmere senior Charlie Malloy scored 18 points, "several when his team needed them the most", as Archmere remained undefeated with a 53-48 win over the Bulldogs on Wednesday, January 8th. Junior John Orsini scored 14 and Ryan Hagenberg added 10 as the Auks competed against Brandywine at home in the Moglia Fieldhouse.
The Auks took an early 10-4 lead, only to see the Bulldogs tie the score by the end of the first quarter. "Archmere’s John Orsini stopped the run with a driving layup, but Brandywine led, 17-12, when Malloy returned to the floor after sitting for some time after picking up two first-quarter fouls. First, the senior banked in a wing three-point shot to cut the deficit to two, and he followed that up with a reverse layup in traffic to tie the score. The Bulldogs, however, took a 21-19 lead into intermission."
The second half was marked by aggressive defense and strict ball control for the Auks. Charlie Malloy scored after a steal to put Archmere on top, 24-23, starting a 9-0 run for Archmere that also included a three-pointer for junior Ryan Hagenberg and two transition buckets for Malloy. Heading into the fourth quarter, the score was 34-32 in favor of the Auks. Senior Riley Schultz hit a critical three-point shot from the corner with 4:45 remaining, and John Orsini followed with another triple to extend the lead to six, cementing the win.
Archmere (4-0) will take on DMA on Thursday, January 16th at 6:15pm on the road.
