Joe Moglia is Chairman of the Board at TD Ameritrade, a position he has held since 2008, and the Head Football Coach of Coastal Carolina University.

Joe first left coaching in 1983 to pursue a career at Merrill Lynch, where he worked for 17 years before being named CEO of TD Ameritrade in 2001. In his seven years as CEO at TD Ameritrade, shareholders enjoyed a 500% return. The Firm’s market cap grew from $700 million to $10 billion and client assets grew from $24 billion to $280 billion. In 2008 when most financial services firms in the United States were imploding or going out of business, TD Ameritrade had its sixth record year in a row. Joe then thought the time was right to pull the trigger on his own succession.

With opportunities in both business and media, he decided to accept the role of Chairman of the Board at TD Ameritrade and return to coaching, where he joined the University of Nebraska staff as Executive Advisor to the Head Football Coach in for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Joe was then named Head Coach and President of the United Football League’s Omaha Nighthawks franchise, coaching through the 2011 season against the likes of head coaching icons Jim Fassel, Marty Schottenheimer, Jerry Glanville and Dennis Green. In December 2011, he was named head football coach at Coastal Carolina University.

In his first season with the NCAA Division I Chanticleers, Joe led Coastal Carolina to an 8-5 record, securing a Big South Conference championship and earning the school’s first NCAA Division I Football Championship playoff win. He was named Big South Conference Coach of the Year and was one of 20 finalists for the Eddie Robinson Award, given annually to the top NCAA FCS coach by The Sports Network, and one of five finalists for the Liberty Mutual FCS Coach of the Year Award.

Moglia has received the Admiral U.S. Grant Sharp Trophy for Leadership and Service, as voted on by players from the University of Nebraska football team, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and has been honored by the National Italian American Foundation, the Columbus Citizens Foundation and the American Institute for Stuttering. He has been inducted into three Halls of Fame, is the recipient of two Honorary Doctorates and is also the only author to have written books published on both investing and football.
