Student/Faculty Blood Drive Donates 30 Units

On Thursday, November 21, Archmere held a student-faculty Blood Drive to benefit the Blood Bank of Delmarva. The Blood Bank of Delmarva serves the community by meeting the needs of patients, hospitals, and members for safe, high quality blood products and related services.
Archmere had about 38 donors consisting of students, faculty, and parents participate in the Blood Drive. Faculty member Kyle Carty spearheaded the event, which took place throughout the entire school day. As a school, Archmere donated roughly 30 pints of blood which will help to save the lives of nearly 200 local patients in the Delmarva area. The Blood Bank remarked, "This week’s drive will provide a huge boost to the blood supply which would not be possible without Archmere spreading the word and encouraging students and faculty to join us."

Among the Archmere students donating (most of them first-timers) were seniors Charlie Ramsey; Kiisi Salami; Cassidy Fanning (a second-time donor); Elisabeth Small, and Kate Venditti; and juniors Isabella Anastasia and Tara Phillips. School counselor and psychology teacher Jon Jezyk also donated because he enjoys helping people with his universal blood type, O negative.

More than 79,000 blood donations are needed in this area each year for about 20,000 patients across the Delmarva Peninsula. More than 30 convenient mobile donor sites are located throughout Delmarva. Please call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8 for an appointment or make an appointment online.
