Maura Read '25 Signs To Play Field Hockey At American University

Maura Read, senior at Archmere Academy, signed her National Letter of Intent to join American University’s Field Hockey Team on November 14, 2024. American University is a Division 1 athletic program located in Washington, DC. A multi-sport athlete, Maura has also been a varsity lacrosse player since 10th grade.
Maura has been recognized for her athletic talent every year since freshman year. Honored as a leader by her coach and peers, Maura was voted Senior Captain and finished her high school career with over 100 points and 72 goals. She has been ranked by the Delaware News Journal many times, with her highest ranking being 18th in the state. Maura’s accolades include First Team All-Conference and First Team All-State titles her junior and senior year and selection this year to the Blue-Gold All-Star Game. 

Outside of the Archmere team, Maura has competed with the Powerhouse Field Hockey Club for the past 4 years. Her Powerhouse team recently attended the regional club championships and is ranked Top 20 nationally. 

A scholar-athlete, Maura is not only the top field hockey scorer, but also an Archmere Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society and National French Honor Society at Archmere Academy. She is also a Leader of the Community Service Club, a Senior Leader, and an Editor for the school newspaper, The Green Arch.

A graduate of Ursuline Academy Middle School in Wilmington, DE, Maura plans to major in Business with a minor in Pre-Law at American University.
