Pitcher Riley Schultz '25 Leads Baseball to Win over Concord
On April 16th the Archmere baseball team played Concord High School under the lights at Frawley Stadium. The game started off on a slower pace, with Reece O’Halloran '28 as the lone baserunner in the first three innings. The Raiders, who entered the game undefeated, finally broke through in the fourth, but Archmere quickly answered. Reece once again hit a single and then scored, with the help of a hit by pitcher Riley Schultz '25.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, when Silas Aulick '27 was hit by a pitch. Luke Kenney '26 then "sac bunted", which drew a throwing error, leading Silas to be able to score. Besides his prowess at the plate, Riley's pitching seemed to get stronger as the game progressed. He kept the Raiders off-balance with his mix of fastballs and various off-speed pitches. Concord threatened in the sixth, putting two men on with one out, but Riley got out of that jam with a strikeout and groundout. He retired the Raiders in order in the seventh, the fourth time he had done so.
Riley Schultz pitched a well executed complete game, holding Concord to three hits. The Auks will compete against Conrad High School at home on Tuesday, April 22 at 4:00pm.
