Lucy Oliver '24 Scores 1,000 Points, Makes her Mark as the Fourth Player in Archmere History to Hit the Milestone

Archmere senior Lucy Oliver scored her 1,000th basketball point, hitting the milestone in the first half of the game against Wilmington Charter on Thursday evening, February 16, in the Moglia Fieldhouse. Lucy is the fourth player in Archmere history to hit 1,000 points.
Sean Hayes '89 and Missy Paraskewich Elliott '93, both in attendance to watch Lucy on February 16, reached the 1,000 point milestone in their senior year at Archmere. Sean celebrated 1,000 points the winter of 1989 during the second to last regular season game, competing away at Wilmington Christian. Needing 17 points, Sean scored 38 that night. A basketball and track and field superstar while at Archmere, Missy scored 1,000 points during an away game in 1993 against Saint Elizabeth's. She was coached by Mr. John Jordan '80. The third member to reach that milestone was Brittany Neill McConnon '08, who hit the 1,000 point mark in a game against Sanford. Brittany, who was Captain in 2007-2008, also led the team to a 17-5 record and to playoff finals, playing at the Bob Carpenter Center for the State Tournament.

Lucy is the first member of the 1,000 point club to hit the milestone at home in the Moglia Fieldhouse. Heading into the game, Lucy needed 22 additional points to reach 1,000; it didn't take her long. The crowd erupted in cheer in the first half of the game when the ball hit the net, signaling that Lucy had reached the milestone. The referees stopped the game to allow for a team celebration. Lucy went on to score 31 points in total against Wilmington Charter, leading the Auks to a 51-23 win. Both Sean Hayes '89 and Missy Paraskewich Elliott '93 were in attendance.

"1000 pts is no easy task. To do it with a Covid shortened 1st year makes it harder, but to do it while setting career highs in assists and fg % and leading our team in charges taken speaks to the complete and team first player Lucy Oliver is. Couldn't be more proud of Lucy!" - Head Coach Dan Pisani

Congratulations, Lucy!
