Auks Win Volleyball State Title!

The Archmere girls' volleyball team, who were ranked fifth going into the tournament, defeated second-ranked Wilmington Charter in the DIAA State Championshp game in front of over 2,600 spectators at the Bob Carpenter Center. This is the first state title for the volleyball team since the 1986-87 season. The match was nothing short of thrilling - the Archmere athletes faced a tough opponent, but their heart and hustle on the court, in the end, was unmatched.

Zoe Akoto '17 and Sami Mengers '16 each had 13 kills, and Regan Bice '15 added 11 kills and 10 huge blocks. Tori Falasco '16 (28 digs) and Sami Mengers '16 (26 digs) also kept Charter's hitters at bay, and Kaylie Leclerc '17 dished 21 assists.

The News Journal writes: "At the beginning of the season, Archmere volleyball coach Mary Pat Kwoka told her team, 'Ladies, we've got a mountain to climb.' On Monday night, the Auks completed the ascent."
