The Archmere Academy Drama Club is proud to present its Winter Musical, the classic, Roald Dahl's Matilda. This modern stage musical has an amazing score by Tim Minchin featuring several songs, including "Revolting”, "When I Grow Up", and "Loud!". The book and lyrics capture the wonderful children’s story of Matilda and her journey to find a place to call home.
Roald Dahl's Matilda stars senior Maggie Shelton in the title role, a precocious young girl who has to use her book-filled brain to outsmart her not-so-smart parents (Mr. Wormwood played by senior Jonah Tonn, and Mrs. Wormwood played by sophomore Brianna Cubbler). Matilda also must survive a horrible school lead by headmistress and hammer-throwing champion Ms. Trunchbull (played by senior Jack Roarty). She finds an ally in the teachers at the school - especially the aptly named Miss Honey (played by junior Bridget McNamara) and the supportive librarian, Mrs. Phelps (played by sophomore Anne-Cecile Kittila). The plot, the songs, and dancing are all callbacks to the classic children’s story and is sure to be a night of fun for everyone. Over forty students will be a part of the wonderfully talented cast and crew. The show is directed by Mr. Brian Manelski, choreographed by Christina Lawless ‘12, with musical direction by Pat D'Amato '08.
Roald Dahl's Matilda will be performed in the Archmere Auditorium two weekends: Friday and Saturday, February 23-24, and March 1st and 2nd at 7pm. Tickets for the show will be available online at the Seat Yourself website and at the door (cash only). Tickets prices are $15 for general admission and $10 for students, faculty of any school and senior citizens. If you buy tickets ahead of time online, they are slightly discounted.
Please make plans to come and revel in the miraculous talent of the cast and crew. This will be the final production in the auditorium before the major renovation of the Performing Arts Center.
